kapitel tanz outdoor

Friday, July 9th 2010, 9.30 p.m.

"Only Real When Shared" (Choreographie: Roberto Olivan)

Matinées for Schools

Wednesday June 9th and Thursday June 10th, 11 a.m.

They Dance, We Watch
Choreographie: Jelka Milic (SLO/GB)

Samstag, 19. September 2009, 21 Uhr

o gosto de ser triste

Choreographie und Performance: Martina Rösler und Stefanie Wieser.

Eine Hommage

an Fado

an die Weiblichkeit

an die Liebe

an Fernweh

Doch was steckt hinter diesem Bedürfnis? Schicksalhaftes Fernweh als unerfüllte Sehnsucht nach Heimat?

WIENER LIEDER (Arbeitstitel)

6. - 20.9.09, SEAD
Artists in Residence: Deborah Hazler/Daniela Hrenek, Martina Rösler/Stefanie Wieser

* Im_flieger CHANGING SPACES

BODHI PROJECT

Tuesday, May 12th 2009, 8 p.m.

On the 12th of May BODHI PROJECT will end their successful creation period with performing two premieres by Matej Kejzar and Diego Gil in republic theatre.

After which they leave for a tours in June to Saalfelden, Waibling, Bremen, Vienna, Polveriggi and Berlin.

„New burlesque“

Choreography: Matej Kejzar

The distribution of power is reflected in the lucidity of rational decisions; gender and its self-examination extend into the spheres of the repressed. The roles defined in advance become an archetypal illusion which we apply onto the surface of reality as such.

„How music sounds“

Choreography: Diego Gil

“How music sounds” focuses its interest in the capability of the dancer to play his movement as a musical instrument. If the dancer would be a musician and his body the instrument to play, how would he perform? Irreparably imperfect their musical composition becomes more a metaphor for coming together than a successful creation of a new rock band.

BODHI PROJECT

curated by Susan Quinn

“How music sounds”

Concept und Choreography: Diego Gil

“How music sounds” focuses its interest in the capability of the dancer to play his movement as a musical instrument. If the dancer would be a musician and his body the instrument to play, how would he perform? In the midst of a kaleidoscopic non-stop choreography five bodies labour the use of time, “opening their ears” to the potential of remixing their dance with the dance of the others. Colliding, modulating, and intensifying their force of movement, they pass through successive stage atmospheres without staying fixed in any of them. Irreparably imperfect their musical composition becomes more a metaphor for coming together than a successful creation of a new rock band.

Showing

Wednesday, March 25th 2009, 8 p.m.

This work explores how society with its norms, rules and regulations shapes the behaviour of the dancing body. The performers are undergoing a series of changes and transformations which mirror the schizophrenic patterns of the everyday life. The everyday can be banal, profound, superficial, meaningful, ridiculous, spiritual, absurd, stressful, pleasant, ironic and this work looks at this variety of states from the perspective of an impartial observer.

Walking through themselves, falling in mind of the other.

Program

Tuesday, January 20th

Three works by Efrat Nevo, Moa Hanssen und Natalia Pieczuro. Dancers: third-year SEAD students

Bess presents: I´VE NEVER BEEN TO ME

Choreographer: Moa Hanssen/Bess (Sweden)
Assistant and coach: Mirjam Klebel/Bess (Austria)
Choreography: Bess with the dancers
Dance: Anat Amrani (Israel) Costas Kekis (Greece) Katarina Rilovic (Croatia) Marie-Louise Nielsen (Denmark) Tine Maringka (Belgium)
Length: 45 minutes
Music: Tindersticks, K-ci & Jojo, Melo, Charlene and Tommy Nilsson

Maybe you know the feeling when someone asks you to do something and you hesitate? This piece is the opposite of hesitation. I´VE NEVER BEEN TO ME is a piece that takes off from the place of un-known spaces and emotions, how you do something you´ve never done before. What happens the first time you walk into a new room, when you start a new process, when you redefine yourself? I´VE NEVER BEEN TO ME follows a methodology that traces memory, affects, representation and timing through movement vocabulary dealing with willingness and desire. For the specificity of I´VE NEVER BEEN TO ME Bess has created a methodology far from anything they have done before. Basic information for the work is a mixture between a movement practice Bess has developed the last years - Practical Dance - and a backdrop of theoretical ideas relating strongly to space. From this startingpoint the process has been re-ignited by the different cultures the dancers are coming from and is further defined by Moa Hanssen acting as choreographer and Mirjam Klebel as assistant and coach. I´VE NEVER BEEN TO ME is created in close connection with the dancers.

NAU

Idea & concept: Nensi Ukrainczyk

Performers & coauthors: Petra Hrašćanec Herceg, Rina Kotur, Nataša  Mihoci, Nina Sakić, Ivana Vratarić

Project assistent: Petra Hrašćanec Herceg

Lights: Miljenko Bengez

Music: Beirut, Jan Johansson, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Miss Li, Radiohead

Costumes: Alena Orović

Scenography: Alma Selmanović

Graphic design: Maja Paskaš

Photography: Filip Bundalo

The starting point of this choreography was a research of the figure-background relationship in a three dimensional medium. Five dancers bring five initial materials that we marked as figures. We then explored for different textures that were later added to the figures or left as background. The result are different situations that retain the original idea in their core, that idea eventually altered up to the limit where it is possible to regard the character as background and vice versa. The outcome is that at this point all the scenic elements can be considered within the same scheme of figure and background.

Ich bin Baum

Choreographie: Jana Unmüßig

TänzerInnen: Eva Bakardjiev, Alex Jenkins, Jacob Peter Kovner, Venke Sortland

Significant Moments

All SEAD students on stage!

November 29th, 7 p.m.

In "Significant Moments" Ori Flomin (USA/Israel) addresses moments of growth and transformation in a unique opportunity to have over one hundred dancers share the stage in celebration of SEAD's 15th anniversary.

"Education, evolution, progression and communication; we face these issues every day on many levels. We look back to move forward, we gather experiences to become better people, we share our thoughts to learn from one another, we remember special moments that make us who we are so we can appreciate what we have and connect to the people around us," Flomin describes the starting point of the piece.

Ori Flomin was born in Israel. From 1991 to 1999 he was a member of the Stephen Petronio Company. Apart from that he danced in pieces by Neil Greenberg, Kevin Wynn, Susan Braham, Michael Clark, SungSoo Ahn und Mark Taylor and others. Flomin is an internationally renowed choreographer and guest lecturer. He taught at PARTS (Brüssel), Dansens Hus (Kopenhagen) and Sasha Waltz Company (Berlin).

Bodhi Project directed by Susan Quinn presents

my copy world and Obscure Level

my copy world

A new work by Vanessa Justice, my copy world, imagines the desire and struggle for real human connection within a hyperreal world--a world as postulated by philospher Baudrillard, that blends reality and representation, and where social behavior is perpetuated by being viewed and endlessly copied. The dance is a meditation about how signs, mirroring, and simulation act as the underlying context for courtship, power, illusion, and perhaps a kind of self-understanding. Aluminum foil (a material that suggests packaging, mass consumerism, and recycling) is used to represent other actual objects, such as a mirror and a stream. Compositional choices were driven by a study of fractal art, impressionism, and surrealism.

Choreographer: Vanessa Justice

Dancers: Stefania Amaducci, Viktoria Andersson, Renan Martins De Oliveira, Deepak Kurki Shivaswamy, Nathalee Lavebäck Frohm, Dávid Mikó, Weronika Pelczyńska, Jana Ryšlavá, Felipe Salazar

Music: Lucky Dragons and Ingram Marshall

Costumes: Vanessa Justice and Dancers

Photography: Vanessa Justice

Length of the piece: approximately 30 minutes

Vanessa Justice is a New York City based choreographer and artistic director of her company, Vanessa Justice Dance. She and her dancers research the materiality of the body, its relationship to gravity and space, and the poetics of communicating lived experience. Vanessa is developing an "open system" approach to composition that allows for the interaction of multiple and diverse sources of information in the process of making a piece. Her work has been shown in venues in New York City, Honolulu, Denver, Columbus, Salt Lake City, and Salzburg. She was recently an artist-in-residence at Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance (Austria, 2008), Movement Research (New York City, 2007) and The Corporation of Yaddo (Saratoga Springs, New York, 2006). In December 2008, she will be an artist-in-residence at the Liguria Study Center in Italy. Vanessa attended Pomona College (BA Religious Studies/Philosophy) and The Ohio State University (MFA Dance), and danced professionally with the Hannah Kahn Dance Company. She has studied, performed, and participated in cross-cultural exchanges in Nepal, Taiwan, Indonesia, India, Germany, and Hawai'i. She has received fellowships from the Thomas J. Watson Foundation (1996-7), The Ohio State University (2000-1), and The Bogliasco Foundation (2008), and a Graduate Research Award (2001) from the Congress on Research in Dance for a paper that observed how normative assumptions about the body are challenged by choreographers and their particular expressions of embodiment. She is currently interested in performance theory/practice, sound installation, and group collaboration/imagination.

"Dance speaks about life's poetic ambiguity and our experience of being in the world."

Obscure Level

The piece explores ideas of contemporary hacking to create kinetic, visual, sound and theatrical assemblages within an unpredictable narrative. By looking into iconic images and by processing and recycling them, we create an experience that triggers individual references and allows the audience to enter the creative space that we present. The piece is influenced by the work of Helio Oiticica, Ligia Clark, and images from the German painter Neo Rauch. Operative Dadaists approaches, the carnival metaphor, as well as our own systems of creating work, were used during the process of creation for this piece.

Dancing in the Streets

Saturday, 26th of April

SEAD celebrates the International World Dance Day in Salzburg Altstadt.

In 1982 the International Dance Committee of the International Theatre Institute, UNESCO, created International Dance Day to be celebrated every year. The date commemorates the birthday  of Jean-Georges Noverre (1727 - 1810), the creator of modern ballet.

Every year a message from a well-known dance personality is circulated throughout the world. The intention of International Dance Day and the Message is to bring all Dance together on this occasion, to celebrate this art form and revel in its universality, to cross all political, cultural and ethnic barriers and bring people together in peace and friendship with a common language - DANCE.

After an exciting three-week creation process, these 22 young, talented dancers who are enrolled in the professional dance education at SEAD, will perofrm Malvacia´s unique material. The result is a vibrating net of movements and sound where the dancers pass by, come into contact with one other and then leave and disappear. His newest creation will beunveiled at Mozartplace on the 29th of April at 6 pm, turning in common area into a vibrant and shifting space. As a dancer, choreograph and visual artist, Malvacias not only uses traditional dance formats like unison, trio and solo compositions, but also introduces atypical elements on the sidewalks in order to transform the space. He is interested in our human encounters, investigating how direction, contact and toucj shift our perspectives. With an electronic score, the piece also brings an additional, acoustic dimension to the event.
