BODHI PROJECT began their work with Keren Levi already weeks before school started. “Moving Right” is the title of the first piece of choreography for BODHI this year and will be premiered on the 20th of November.
The ICE students selected dancers from the Defining year in the first week of school. Their projects which will be presented in New Faces New Dances festival January 18th till the 21st in Republic Theatre Salzburg. They have been rehearsing for the last six weeks and will continue this session with their projects being mentored by Todd Williams.
Students were getting back in to the swing of school, technique classes, rehearsals, afternoon creative work and theory programs. Studios were full and all of the sushi and baked goods made by the students in the cafeteria were sold out by the end of the day! It’s nice to have Zoilly here this year ,with his video workshop and his hot soups!!
Ceren began to run the Forum program which included an artist talk with Jimena Paz, a school improvisation with Keren Levi, a talk by myself about Merce Cunningham and two preshowings for Friday showing. Students enjoyed taking philosophy and dance analysis this session and there were discussions about self motivation and building up personal self esteem.
The first session has ended with a showing of material from classes of Dana Yaholomi, Libby Farr, Matej Kelzar, Todd Williams and Jimena Paz. Everyone met in the theatre and each group presented a sample of material that was being worked on this session. The atmosphere was supportive and enthusiastic and was fun to watch how students are changing and growing.
After a break Merce's memorial vent was presented. Students from the Grounding year danced segments of learned material from Cunningham's repertory and presented it with concentration and dignity. Students from the Going on year choreographed a piece inspired by Merce's chance procedure, which was imaginative and full of dancing and personalities! The documentary film A Life in Dance by Charles Atlas was shown in part and Manuel de Roo explained and played a recording of John Cage's Imaginary Landscape No. 5.
Macrobiotic food was served in the cafeteria during the break which was delicious. After another break Friday showing began at 8 o’ clock with work by Marie-Louise, Pascale, Renan and Marcus, Costas and Fie.
