history and philosophy
SEAD Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance is a training center for contemporary dancers and choreographers and was founded in 1993 by Susan Quinn. In addition to its professional training program, SEAD is also a year-round production and event venue for contemporary dance and performance art. The dance academy and its international students enrich the cultural offerings of the city of Salzburg with numerous events, in-house productions, guest events, and guest performances.
Today, around 100 students from more than 30 countries around the world attend the academy’s various training programs – from the four-year undergraduate program to the one-year postgraduate program for choreographers (I.C.E.) and the continuing education programs for dancers (FIRE year, MoveMentors Dance Intensive Workshops).
SEAD is a vibrant dance and cultural center in the city of Salzburg, offering a variety of dance classes and workshops for adults, teens, and kids. The promotion of young artists throughout the calendar year and the artistic and dance education of young talent and adults are at the forefront of SEAD’s activities.
Since 2008, SEAD has also been the home base and production site of the internationally touring dance company BODHI PROJECT, which has been working under the blackmountain association since 2018.

SEAD has a diverse team of permanent and guest lecturers from all over the world. They bring different perspectives and expertise to the classroom and offer students comprehensive training in various dance styles and techniques. The teaching staff changes throughout the year to give students the opportunity to work with renowned and innovative artists.
SEAD collaborates with various international institutions and festivals to offer students a wide range of performance and further training opportunities. These partnerships promote cultural exchange and support the artistic development of the students.
