30 years sead

Imagine… an orange blossom flower, the only one, nestled between rocks in the midst of a sky-scraping mountain. The wind is blowing unevenly and the soil beneath your feet is dry. The half-dried grass lies sideways, combed by the wind. Yet, she holds her own. You understand her beauty – the beauty of creation in contrast to the environment she had to conquer to exist. You understand her courage – the courage to dare and be true to the message a little seed carried, and its whispers are still heard. You understand her drive, persistence, and admire the passionate colour she has adorned herself with. This is how I see SEAD.
Words from Maja Poturovic in 30 YEARS OF DANCE, SEAD – A RETROSPECTIVE.
From May 12-14, SEAD celebrated its 30th anniversary with the festival ‘dance is a wild flower’. We witnessed three days that not only brought many new, truly stirring memories, but also revived many old, much cherished memories. On Friday we were allowed exclusive insights into the SEAD house and rehearsals, on Saturday Olivier Dubois' piece collection made the packed SZENE Salzburg vibrate and on Sunday the premiere of JUKSTA Company, the anniversary video by Albert Vidal, the book presentation by Birke Van Maartens as well as an electrifying party provided an emotional end to the festivities.

SEAD and its director Susan Quinn would like to thank from the bottom of their hearts all those who celebrated, reminisced, laughed, and cried with us. What began as a pioneering project in Waagplatz and found its way via Elsbethen to the foot of the Kapuzinerberg – SEAD – has not only become an integral part of the international contemporary dance scene, but has also touched the lives of students, alumni, course participants, spectators and all those connected with SEAD.
We hope that the experimental nature of the academy and the generous visions of Susan Quinn will thrive with drive and passion for many years to come. If you can, please continue to support our quest for cutting-edge, high-quality education in contemporary dance, accessible to all talents regardless of their background. You can help by enjoying our regular performances, participating in our open classes, or making a financial contribution.

My drive is in my DNA. It’s my personality. If I were to explain what it personally means to me, it would be my passion. My passion for the love of Dance, dancers, dancing. SEAD could not have happened without a passion urging it forward. I am fortunate that I have this drive to accomplish something that others can profit from. I am driven to create something that can benefit a community long after I am gone.
